Privacy Policy
This policy explains how PinView (“we,” “us”) handles information in our golf-clip sharing app and on this support website. Contact pinview.support@gmail.com with questions or privacy requests.
Information you provide
- Account information: email address, username, display name, authentication information, and your acceptance of the community rules. Password authentication is handled by Supabase Auth; your password is not shown on your public profile.
- Profile details: your chosen photo, bio, handicap, home course and selected golf highlights. Optional details are supplied by you.
- Content: the videos, photos, audio included in those files, captions, tags, course names and shot details you choose to upload.
- Social and safety records: likes, comments, saves, follows, blocks, reports, moderation decisions and in-app activity/read status.
- Verification applications: the name or business name, category, public website/social-profile link and explanation you submit. These application details are available to the PinView review team; approval displays a verification badge to other users. Do not submit identity documents or passwords through this form.
- Support messages: emails and attachments you send us.
Direct messages
PinView stores direct messages, the accounts sending and receiving them, timestamps and read status to provide conversations and safety features. You can choose who may message you, block users, and edit or unsend messages you have sent. Recipients can see messages you send and may retain copies or screenshots.
If a message is reported, PinView retains a copy of the reported message and related information for moderator review, including if the message is later edited or unsent. Moderators can review reported content to investigate abuse and enforce our rules. Reports and safety records may be retained as described below.
Messages can include a shot you share. The recipient sees the shot only if their account is allowed to view it.
Swing analysis (PinView Pro)
PinView Analyzer measures golf swings using body tracking that runs on your iPhone. To analyze a video, the app temporarily downloads it to your device, processes it there, and deletes the temporary copy afterward. Videos are not sent to an outside service for swing analysis.
When you post a video, the app checks on your device whether it contains a full swing and saves only a yes/no result with the post. This decides whether the swing analysis button appears on it.
If you save an analysis to My swings, we store the results, the club you chose, the camera angle, a link to the post, and whether it was your own post. Saved analyses are private to you; other users, including the post's owner, cannot see them. You can delete them in My swings, and they are deleted with your account.
When someone analyzes a post, we record that their account analyzed it, so each person is counted once. Each swing video shows the total number of golfers who have analyzed it. The post's owner may get a notification that "A golfer" analyzed their shot; it never says who.
PinView Pro subscriptions
PinView Pro is purchased through Apple's App Store. Apple processes payments; PinView never receives your card or payment details. The app checks whether your Apple Account has an active PinView Pro subscription using Apple's StoreKit on your device. Subscriptions are managed, canceled and refunded through Apple, under Apple's terms and privacy policy.
Technical information and device access
Our infrastructure providers process technical information such as IP addresses, request times, device/browser information and security or error logs when you connect. The app stores login/session information and local caches on your device to operate the service.
The app uses Apple's photo picker for files you select. If you choose Record a video, the app requests camera and microphone access to capture your video and its sound. Recording stays in your draft until you choose to post it; you can cancel or deny permission. You can manage these permissions in iPhone Settings. It does not need to read your entire photo library to let you choose a clip. The current app does not request your contacts or precise GPS location. A course name or other location detail you type into a profile or post may identify where you play.
If you choose to save a swing analysis image to your camera roll, the app asks for permission to add photos. This permission only lets PinView save new images; it cannot read your photo library. If you share a shot outside PinView, the app downloads that video to your device temporarily and passes it to the app you choose. Once shared, the receiving app's own policies apply.
How we use information
We use information to create and secure accounts, deliver verification and recovery messages, show profiles and clips, operate feeds and search, record your social actions, deliver in-app activity, respond to support, and moderate abuse or enforce our rules. Moderators can inspect submitted content and reports for these purposes.
Personalized recommendations
In app versions that support personalized For You recommendations, PinView uses the shots you actually watch, how much you watch, completed plays, replays and quick skips, together with likes, saves, comments, follows and Not interested choices, to rank clips. The system uses course names, clubs, shot types and tags supplied with posts to find relevant golf content. Buffering and paused time do not count as watching.
Watch samples are associated with your signed-in account and processed in our existing Supabase backend. They are not displayed to other users or added to public view counts, and this feature does not send watch activity to a separate advertising or recommendation service. We also store short-lived ranked-feed snapshots to keep pagination stable. Content access and moderation checks still apply when feed pages and playback links are requested.
You can turn personalization off or reset recommendations in Profile → Settings → For You preferences. Turning personalization off stops new watch-sample collection and clears existing watch samples. Resetting clears watch samples and Not interested choices; existing likes, saves and follows remain and can still influence recommendations when personalization is enabled.
The first version keeps up to 500 recent watch samples and 500 Not interested choices per account. Watch samples older than 30 days are ignored and removed when the account next requests its feed or submits watch samples. An inactive account's older samples may remain until that cleanup, a reset or account deletion. Routine provider logs and backups follow the separate retention limits described below.
Automated upload screening
Before you can post using the updated app, we ask you to agree to automated visual safety checks. When automatic screening is active, PinView sends your uploaded photos, videos (including any audio track in the file), and thumbnails to Amazon Web Services (AWS Rekognition). This includes uploads from private accounts. Private-account settings still control which other users can see an approved post; they do not exclude uploads from safety checks.
AWS Rekognition checks visual content for potentially unsafe material. These checks do not analyze speech or determine whether everything said in a video is appropriate. Caption filters, reports, blocking and human moderation remain part of our safety process. Uploads that pass may publish automatically; flagged uploads, errors and uploads outside the screening budget may wait for moderator review. Automated decisions can be wrong. Email pinview.support@gmail.com to ask for human review.
We use a private Amazon S3 bucket in the United States (Northern Virginia) for temporary screening copies. Our worker attempts to delete these copies after a screening decision. A one-day lifecycle rule helps remove abandoned copies; deletion is not guaranteed to occur exactly 24 hours after upload. AWS analysis results, technical logs and provider backups may be retained separately under the relevant service configuration and policies. PinView also stores screening status and moderation records to operate and audit the process.
You can choose not to upload if you do not agree to this processing. To withdraw consent for future uploads or ask about deletion, contact support. Withdrawal does not undo processing already performed.
What other people can see
Your name, username, profile photo and the profile details you choose to display remain visible to other signed-in users, subject to blocking and moderation. In supported app versions, you can make your account private: approved followers can see your posts; new followers must request access. Existing followers keep access until you remove them. Switching back to public accepts pending follow requests and makes approved posts visible to other golfers.
Comments, replies and comment reactions are visible to people who can access the associated post. Saves, block records, requests and reports have restricted access for the relevant accounts and moderation functions. Moderators may inspect private content for safety and support.
Media access and its limits. Supported protected-media builds check access before issuing temporary playback links. Anyone who receives a valid temporary media link may be able to use it until it expires or a cache stops serving it. Older builds and previously shared uploads used public links. Making an account private, removing a follower or deleting content cannot recall downloads, recordings, copies, or previously cached public links. Do not use PinView for confidential storage. Settings are available only after the protected-media backend and supported app have been installed.
Services that help run PinView
- Apple: App Store in-app purchases and subscription management for PinView Pro.
- Supabase: account authentication, database records, file storage and backend operations. Its infrastructure processes data needed to provide those services. See Supabase's privacy information.
- Amazon Web Services: Amazon S3 and AWS Rekognition process temporary media copies and visual safety results for upload screening as described above. See AWS privacy information.
- Photon / komoot: typed course-search queries are sent to the Photon geocoding service at photon.komoot.io to retrieve course suggestions. That service receives the query and normal network/request information, including your IP address. Do not enter confidential information into course search.
- Google Gmail: messages you send to our support address are processed by Gmail. Account verification/recovery messages are handled through our configured authentication/email infrastructure.
- Website hosting: this support site is hosted through ChatGPT Sites and Cloudflare infrastructure, which may process technical requests and security logs to deliver and protect the pages.
We share information with service providers to run the service, with other users as described above, when you choose to share it, and when reasonably necessary to address abuse, protect rights or comply with a valid legal obligation. Some development versions of the app integrate Google Mobile Ads and Google User Messaging Platform for test advertisements and privacy choices. Test ads do not generate advertising revenue. If we enable advertising in a future version, we will update this policy as needed and provide required choices before applicable data uses.
Advertising and privacy choices
Some development versions of PinView use Google Mobile Ads (AdMob) to display test ads, together with Google User Messaging Platform to retrieve and present applicable privacy choices. Google and its advertising partners may process information such as IP address, device and app information, device identifiers, ad interactions, and diagnostic information to deliver, measure, secure and improve advertising services. The precise data used depends on device settings, app configuration, applicable choices and the ad received. Google may derive approximate location from network information. See how Google uses information from apps that use its services and Google’s Privacy Policy.
In supported versions, where applicable, Profile → Settings → Ad Privacy Choices opens Google’s privacy choices, including choices about the sale or sharing of personal information for advertising where offered. Availability depends on the user’s location and the relevant message configuration. You can also contact pinview.support@gmail.com about privacy requests. Your device’s privacy and advertising settings may provide additional controls.
Our ad integration is being tested; live advertisements are not currently enabled in the app’s production code. We will review advertising settings, age-related treatment, disclosures and applicable consent requirements before enabling them.
Retention and deletion
We retain account and content records while needed to provide your account and the service. You can delete your posts in the app or delete your account in Profile → Account/settings → Delete Account. Account deletion removes the account and associated profile, posts and linked records through our backend cleanup. If deletion fails, contact support.
Technical logs, provider backups, support correspondence, records needed for legitimate safety or legal purposes, and copies held by other people may persist separately. Backup/log retention follows the relevant provider configuration and policies. We do not promise that every cached copy disappears immediately.
Your choices and requests
You can edit your profile, choose which files to upload, use report/block controls, and delete posts or your account. To ask for access, correction, a copy or deletion of information—or to withdraw consent where processing relies on it—email support. We may need to verify that the request relates to your account. Rights and any applicable exceptions depend on where you live. Removing information essential to account operation may require closing the account.
Children and international processing
PinView is for people aged 13 or older and is not directed to children under 13. If you believe an under-13 child has provided personal information, contact us so we can investigate and remove it as appropriate. Data may be processed in the United States and other locations where our providers operate; privacy protections may differ by location.
Security, website tracking and changes
We use authentication, encrypted network connections and access controls to help protect information. No system can guarantee complete security. These pages do not add advertising trackers or marketing analytics; hosting providers may still process technical data needed to serve and protect the website.
We may update this policy as PinView changes. We will publish the revised policy here, update its effective date and provide additional notice or seek consent when required.
